1992

SQlab founder Tobias Hild launches the brand Amazing Toys.
Under the brand name Amazing Toys, SQlab founder Tobias Hild develops components for the MTB-DH sport which at this time is still in its infancy. Both the step saddle and lock-on grips were developed at this time, but as the company’s emphasis is on the DH, these components never makes it into production.

2003

The first step-saddle is launched
The first SQlab step-saddle, the 601 is presented. The success early on is moderate, but the first sitbones are being measured and later in the year the size 15 cm is added to the size 13 cm saddle. Especially with saddles the tooling costs are high, so the selection of sizes needs to grow slowly.

2004

Launch of the trekking saddle 602 – with a test win
The first test win in a large comparison test of saddles which begins an unbelievable series of success stories of SQlab saddles in magazine tests. Since then, SQlab has been the most successful saddle manufacturer in tests of German magazines.

2007

World champ
SQlab rider Hanka Kupfernagel becomes World Champion in the time trial discipline on the SQlab 612 and goes on to also win both the German XC and CX Champs in the same year. In the following years many more SQlab riders receive both German and European titles as well as high placings in global endurance events such as The Race Across America.

2010

711 grip – patent dispute
initially a setback. SQlab can refer to grip development and property rights from the 90’s, but decides to forgo a lengthy patent dispute with a German competitor. Reason: the SQlab R&D dept. has been busy and in the meantime developed several improvements and new grip concepts to draw on and hence SQlab decides to not take the dispute to court but to rather carry it out on the free market, where the better product and in the end the rider will win.

2011

The “active” system is expanded to other models
The active system is expanded from the sleek 611 active to other riding disciplines. The 610 active, the 602 active and the 621 active are introduced and create the largest growth of SQlab in the past 8 years.

2014

Our conclusion after 10 Years of SQlab
After 10 years packed with innovations, which have even changed the market with a long lasting positive impact giving many customers back their joy in cycling, SQlab belongs to a select group of companies with the most copied concepts in the field. The strategy to maintain an edge on the competition with a fast moving high level of innovations will be also maintained in future.

2015

SQlab develops three special edition saddles!
SQlab will make a limited number of signature saddles for bike legend Hans „no way“ Ray, rockstar and base player for Rage Against the Machine Timmy C. and MTB Pro Guido Tschugg.

2002

SQlab takes on the distribution for the Hobson Easyseat.
SQlab begins with the distribution of the dual pad saddle Hobson Easyseat which originated in the USA.

2003

The first winged grip is launched
SQlab launches its first ergonomic winged grip, the SQlab 735.

2004

Brief appearance of the Super6 concept
Super 6 – the brilliant concept briefly appears and then disappears again, at least for the time being. But in the development process Hild, Staudte and Knöringer discover the active system and concentrate on further developing the concept of wings with a degree of dampened movement.

2007

SQlab expands and moves into the neighboring villa in the Fundsbergerstrstraße 27.
The R&D department now has the space it needs. The main dry storage however remains at the shipping warehouse in the north of Munich.

2010

Eurobike Gold award for the 611 active saddle
The 611 is production ready and in 2010 wins several saddle tests and the Eurobike Gold Award.

2011

SQlab moves to Taufkirchen
The move to the close by Taufkirchen in November finally provides the much sought after space. The SQlab lab is expanded with the addition of a scientific performance data logging system with which the performance of the individual muscles can be recorded while pedaling. With five different data logging systems the pressure in shoes, on grips, on the saddle and meanwhile also on automotive seats can be recorded and analyzed.
With a new video analysis system the movements and riding position of cyclists can now be analysed and evaluated.

2014

The first saddle with double step and the new measuring system are introduced
The 602 active DS is launched at Eurobike 2014. The first saddle with double step which provides better support and comfort. Is it already evident that the new concept has a bright future.
A further highlight for 2015 – the new measuring stool with knob plate in a new revamped modern design which due to the perforated plate and special measuring paper provides SQlab with an even more accurate sitbone measurement. The new measuring stool is available from Spring.

2015

SQlab is meanwhile represented in 23 countries
and hence sitbones of various nationalities are being measured. Interestingly however, no further minimum or maximum measurements have been added to our statistics. This shows that the average sitbone measurement between the continents varies less than initially presumed.

2002

Sitbone measurement
SQlab becomes the first manufacturer globally to develop a system for measuring the sitbones and determining the optimal saddle width in dependency of the seating position. This concept will gain momentum in the following years and gain widespread acceptance to the point where these days it is hardly imaginable to buy a saddle without measuring your sitbones.

2004

The first step saddle for a dynamic riding position is launched
At the Bike Festival in Riva, SQlab launches its first step-saddle for a dynamic riding position and with both a sleek appearance and titanium saddle rails.

2005

Compendium: "The path to a perfect saddle"
400 dealers have since been to our seminars and have learned how to solve rider’s problems and are equipped with sitbone measuring stools.

2008

The SQlab "active" system
The first saddle model of the “Active” success story is presented at Eurobike, at this point still in a very futuristic design.

2010

The second limited edition team saddle is launched
SQlab launches its second limited edition team saddle with carbon rails. The saddle is sold out within a couple of days and is now only available on Ebay far above original value.

2012

SQlab engages in supporting the local Isartrails
An Isartrail hiking club and several Ornithologists feel disturbed by the increasing number of cyclists and join forces with the aim to ban cycling in the Isartrails region. As the Bombenkrater Areal was just closed for cyclists a couple of years earlier, this threat was to be taken very seriously. SQlab and Christian Henne from Agentur Henne Digital join forces and create the Pro-Isartrails Facebook page and SQlab launch a limited edition saddle dedicated to the Isartrails.

2014

SQlab launches the „SnaQeTeam"
The SnaQeTeam consists of selected test riders from all corners of the globe, completed by the SQlab development team of specialists and doctors so that SQlab can guarantee a development process which is not removed from real world use.

2003

Establishment of the company SQlab GmbH
In February 2003 the company Slab GmbH is established in the Fundsbergstraße in Munich. A one-family home is the office, two portable office containers are the storage, and in a small timber cottage the lab is set up. Despite space limitations, highly sensitive pressure mapping technology is used, scientists and medical experts come for house visits and the founding spirit gives strength and energy.
The real test lab however, are the Isar Trails around Munich and directly behind the lab, on which various SQlab and competitor’s products are continually tested and will later appear in headlines.

2004

MTB legend Hans Rey starts riding for SQlab
The MTB legend Hans Rey discovers SQlab saddles and from now on relies on our saddles on all his adventures.

2006

SQlab grips become available in three sizes
The new SQlab 702 grip is the first SQlab grip to become available in three sizes.

2009

Special edition for the Wings for Life foundation
First launch of the 711 series of grips with lock-on feature and available in three sizes as well as with and without bar ends.
SQlab teams up with the Wings For Life Foundation and makes a special edition grip.

2011

The new 711 grip is launched
The clamping mechanism was developed in collaboration with Syntace and is completely free of any metal parts other than the clamping screw. The result is less weight, better grip and lower production costs. The first of its kind, thoroughly thought out, especially the squared-off shape at the front and on the underside ensure levels of comfort and grip previously thought unobtainable.

2013

The 600 active is launched
The classic Easyseat by Hobson USA gets a makeover and is equipped with the SQlab active system.

2015

SQlab launches the newly developed Ergowave saddle shape
which has resulted from a three year research project in collaboration with the Frankfurt University. The research team was the first globally to succeed in calculating the forces that exist between human and bike into the deep structures of the human body. The new shape will be presented with SQlab's first carbon saddle, the Super6.1 which is equipped with a never before seen saddle pad system and which is hand crafted in Germany.
