The SQlab 614 ERGOWAVE® active 2.1 is available in various widths, as everyone has a different distance between their sit bones. To choose the right saddle size for a gravel bike, add 2 cm to the measured distance between the sit bones.

This ensures that the seat bones rest on the designated support surface and can bear the majority of the body’s weight. If a gravel saddle is too narrow, pressure is often exerted on sensitive soft tissues. The correct width improves pressure distribution and allows the 614 ERGOWAVE® active 2.1 to fully demonstrate its ergonomic benefits.

The elastomer is the central component of the active system in the 614 ERGOWAVE® active 2.1. It flexibly connects the saddle shell to the frame and allows for controlled lateral movement of the saddle whilst pedalling. This supports the natural movement of the pelvis, which can help to noticeably relieve pressure on the lower back. At the same time, the riding position remains stable and power transfer to the pedals is maintained. The elastomer ensures greater comfort and a more natural riding feel, particularly on long gravel tours, bikepacking adventures and bumpy gravel sections.

The SQlab saddle width system is based on the individual distance between the sit bones. For gravel bikes, the rule of thumb is: distance between sit bones + 2 cm = recommended saddle width. This ensures that the sit bones rest on the saddle’s load-bearing surface and that the pressure is not transferred to sensitive soft tissue structures. With the 614 ERGOWAVE® active 2.1, the correct width is particularly important, as this is the only way the ERGOWAVE® stepped design can work to its full potential. The right saddle width improves pressure relief, reduces numbness and ensures greater comfort on long gravel tours, bikepacking adventures and long-distance rides.

ERGOWAVE® technology takes a different approach than a simple cutout in the saddle. Instead of merely reducing pressure in the center, the distinctive stepped shape provides targeted support for the sit bones and shifts body weight onto load-bearing bony structures. This relieves pressure on sensitive areas in the perineum while simultaneously improving power transfer. The raised rear of the 614 ERGOWAVE® active 2.1 also provides additional support in a sporty gravel riding position. The result is a combination of pressure relief, stability, and control that offers particular advantages on long gravel sections and challenging gravel tours.

A gravel saddle that’s too narrow often causes numbness, pressure in the perineal area, or discomfort while riding. Many riders also unconsciously shift back and forth on the saddle to relieve pressure points. The 614 ERGOWAVE® active 2.1 is therefore available in several widths and is selected based on the individual’s sit bone spacing. Only when the sit bones bear the main load can pressure relief and ergonomics function optimally.
