SQlab Technology: Unisex Bike Saddle Concept

Anatomically optimized saddles for all riders.

SQlab's approach to saddle design prioritizes anatomical accuracy over gender assumptions. By measuring sit bone distances, we can determine the optimal saddle width for each individual. This method ensures that the sit bones are fully supported, and pressure is optimally concentrated, leading to enhanced comfort and performance for all cyclists.

Why gender-specific saddles are unnecessary

Optimal saddle comfort is not about distributing pressure evenly across the entire seating area. The best comfort occurs when the load is concentrated solely on the sit bones, avoiding unnecessary pressure on soft tissue. Should there be specific saddles for men and women? Is it necessary to have different saddles for men and women? There is no need to differentiate between men's and women's saddles for SQlab saddles with step saddle technology. Instead, the sit bone distance is the decisive criterion. The correct saddle width ensures that the sit bones are fully supported and the pressure is optimally distributed.

The anatomical difference between men and women

sqlabergonomiebeckenanatomievergleichmannfrau
The only significant anatomical difference between men and women is the lower pubic arch in women. However, thanks to SQlab's step saddle technology with a dip in the middle of the saddle and the lower saddle nose, this difference has already been taken into account. This saddle design ensures that the sensitive perineal area in men and the pubic arch in women are equally relieved.

Why take sit bone measurements?

Saddle width technology

During normal sitting, the sit bones are designed to support the body weight and can absorb high pressure; this should also be the case when cycling. Thanks to the SQlab saddle width concept, the main load of the body weight is placed on the sit bones when cycling. The distance between the sit bones varies from person to person, so to ensure that the sit bones have sufficient contact surface, this distance must be measured to determine the appropriate saddle width.

How does the sit bone measurement work?

Step 1

Place the measuring card on a smooth, firm surface. Sit upright on the card and pull yourself down with both hands as firmly as possible to create a clear imprint.

For best results, elevate your feet slightly if possible

Step 2

Mark the imprints with a pen and measure the distance from center to center between your sit bone marks. If the measurement is between two values, always round up.

Step 3

Select the bike type from this table and add the corresponding value to the measured sit bone distance.
