Why Sit Bone Measurement Matters

Your sit bones are the key contact point between your body and the saddle. Only when they are fully supported can pressure be evenly distributed. If the saddle is too narrow, your body weight shifts to more sensitive areas like the perineum – which can lead to numbness, pain, or even long-term issues. The SQlab sit bone measurement helps you find the ideal saddle width – tailored to your anatomy and riding posture.

How does the sit bone measurement work?

Step 1

Place the measuring card on a smooth, firm surface. Sit upright on the card and pull yourself down with both hands as firmly as possible to create a clear imprint.

For best results, elevate your feet slightly if possible

Step 2

Mark the imprints with a pen and measure the distance from center to center between your sit bone marks. If the measurement is between two values, always round up.

The effective saddle width

The saddle width is always the effective usable seat surface, not the total width.

With all SQlab saddles, the usable area is utilized to the maximum and as little width as possible is wasted due to excessive curvature.

Determine the saddle width:

A measurement aid line is created at the widest point of the saddle (see illustration below). The area can be used up to the outer points from which the saddle drops more than 1 cm downwards.
