How to find the right SQlab Gravel products
How do I find the right saddle width for my gravel bike?
Finding the right saddle width for your gravel bike depends on the geometry and riding position. The first step is to measure the sit bones. This can either be done at a local SQlab dealer or easily at home with the Family and Friends set. To determine the correct saddle width, the next step is to analyze the seating position. With gravel bikes, a difference is made between a more sporty or comfortable riding position.
For a sporty riding position, as on a road bike, we recommend adding +1 cm to the pure sit bone distance due to the slightly more forward rotation of the pelvis. For a comfortable, moderate riding position, which is characterized by a slightly more upright upper body and less elevation between the saddle and handlebars, we recommend adding + 2 cm to the pure sit bone distance. If you are still unsure, we advise you to choose a saddle that is one centimeter wider rather than too narrow.
How do I adjust the saddle optimally?
To adjust the saddle, we use the scale on the rails as a guide. To generate more pressure on the pedal, we recommend pushing the saddle 5-10 mm further towards the bottom bracket than with a conventional saddle. This is due to the fact that the sitting position on a SQlab saddle is slightly further back, which means that an adjustment is necessary to ensure optimum power transmission.
How do I know which handlebar width I need?
A difference is also made between road and gravel bikes when determining the correct handlebar width. The first step is to measure the shoulder width, which can be determined by a SQlab specialist dealer, for example, using the digital measurement. The shoulder width is measured between the two shoulder caps. On a road bike, the shoulder width corresponds to the handlebar width. In contrast to the road bike, + 2 cm are added to the shoulder width determined on the gravel bike. This gives you more control and stability off-road.
Wrap the handlebar tape correctly step by step:
Wrapping the handlebar tape correctly ist crucial for comfort and control.
The first step is to determine the grip width in order to wrap the handlebar tape in the correct size. This can either be done at a local SQlab dealer or simply by using the handlebar width determination tool to print out at home. It is important that the handlebars are free of grease so that the handlebar tape adheres well. Start 2-3 cm from the lower end of the handlebars. Then wrap the tape upwards with an overlap of about 5 mm. The tension should be selected so that the tape is tight but not overstretched. The rows of dots specified by the respective grip size help when wrapping.
The “Figure 8” technique is used for the brake levers: the tape is looped around the lever in a figure of eight, making sure that there are no gaps. Continue wrapping on the top link and ensure a seamless transition from the brake levers.
Finally, fix the end of the tape with the supplied adhesive tape or a conventional insulating tape, fixing the handlebar tape 2-3 times around the handlebars at the end. The handlebar end plugs are firmly inserted to secure the tape. The ideal wrap should have a smooth, wrinkle-free surface without gaps or unevenness and give the handlebars an ergonomic shape.
