Back pain while cycling

Why does back pain occur?

Back pain while cycling is very common – and should not be accepted as inevitable.

Back pain often results from tension in the lower back – especially during long rides in a static sitting position. The forward-leaning posture places continuous stress on the spine, similar to prolonged sitting in everyday life.

We make the difference

How SQlab saddles relieve and mobilize the back

When the intervertebral discs are subjected to one-sided stress during riding, back pain can occur. SQlab relies on active technology, which allows the pelvis to move laterally while riding. This relieves the lower spine, mobilizes the intervertebral discs, and effectively prevents back pain – for greater comfort on every ride.

Prevention

active - Technology

The human body is made for movement. SQlab’s active saddle technology supports the natural lateral motion of the pelvis while pedaling—mimicking the body’s walking mechanics. This movement relieves pressure on the lower spine, discs, and facet joints, helping reduce strain and prevent back pain for more comfort on every ride.

How it works

active - technology in detail

The active technology is based on scientific findings in spinal disc and spinal column therapy. In close cooperation with Dr. Markus Knöringer, an experienced sports physician and expert in this field, we have developed the active technology for our bicycle saddles.

By combining medical know-how and state-of-the-art technology, the saddles with active technology offer targeted support for the spine and spinal discs when cycling. Dr. Knöringer's expertise has enabled us to integrate ergonomic approaches that promote both the comfort and health of cyclists. In collaboration with Dr. Markus Knöringer, MD, we have developed the SQlab back primer for targeted strengthening of the back muscles.
